Madhavan B Nair was born and raised in Neyyattinkara (a major industrial and commercial area), located to the south of capital city Trivandrum of Kerala State). He is from Thalakulam Kunnakode family and born to Rajyasree Bhaskara Pillai and Rugmini Amma. He is the fourth among his six siblings.

His father Rajyasree Bhaskara Pillai is a freedom fighter, Editor and Owner of Rajyasree Newspaper. He was a contemporary of Swadeshabhimani Ramakrishna Pillai, a social reformer and a native of Neyyattinkara.

He is settled in Chatham, New Jersey with his wife Geetha Nair, a native of Kazakuttom, Trivandrum and together they have a two children, Bhaskar M Nair and Janaki Nair. Bhaskar is married to Anamika Nair and together they have two children, Rohan Nair and Anaya Nair. Janaki is married to Mahesh Avula and together they have a daughter, Nishika Avula.
